Our Recreation program is designed to engage Veterans in a variety of activities that they can enjoy with each other or with their families. Our walking trails, basketball courts, horseshoe pits and scenic overlook are always open. We frequently offer special events and trips featuring wheelchair basketball, golf clinics, community gardening, strawberry picking, fly-tying, wood shop work, art and crafts. Highlighting the benefits of golf, our Warrior Golf Program leverages the expertise of golf pros throughout New York state and offers comaraderie and physical activity all within the natural beauty of the golf course environment.
Free program that offers social companionship, meaningful activities and active engagement in a safe space so care partners have an opportunity to socialize and tend to their own healthcare needs. This program meets ponce monthly - Second Wednesday of the month - from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Westfield Untited Methodist Church, 101 E Main Street in Westfield, NY. Medicaid Waiver/Community Recreation - Recreation programs provide activities in the community for both adults and teens with developmental disabilities. The programs are designed to educate individuals of various recreational opportunities that exist in the community while at the same time helping them to meet new people, develop friendships, and have fun! Each program fosters the development of social skills, helps to promote independence, and provides opportunities for community inclusion.Recreation for Teens and Adults
The Medicaid Waiver Respite program is designed to provide short term respite for family members of individuals with developmental disabilities. Individuals must be 13 years of age or older and live in a non-certified residence (such as with a family member) in Onondaga County. Some of the activities that individuals have been involved in are dances, movie making classes, acting with The Red House Arts Center and much, much more! Transportation to and from events is provided for most activities.
Overseen by Broome County Parks and Recreation, the arena is avaliable for sports events, conventions, concerts, etc. Home of American Hockey League Binghamton Devils hockey team.
Club members participate in a variety of physical activities that encourage them to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles, become physically fit and make daily physical activity a lifelong habit. Boys and girls of all ages can participate in intramural sports that promote teamwork and fairness, as well as noncompetitive activities including aerobic exercise, fitness workouts and dance.
Action for Older Persons (AOP) runs the TechSmart Computer Center, which offers classes, workshops, and tutoring in areas such as: digital photo basics, geneology, digital games, computer security and introduction to computers.
The Tioga Adult Learning Lab (TALL), offered by the Literacy Volunteers of Broome/Tioga, provides introductory computer classes, workshops, and one-on-one tutoring in: Windows, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, internet use, computer literacy and vocational training.
Broome County Parks and Recreaetion provides swimming lessons, ice skating amd open recreation programs.
We work closely with other county organizations to develop and operate a variety of health and wellness activities. Senior are encouraged to participate in Matter of Balance, Tai-Chi for Arthritis classes and walking programs. Senior fitness directories are offered at Office for the Aging.
The Community Health Intervention Program is run by the Broome County Council of Churches. It is a cooking program, with one class a week for six weeks. Held at Johnson City Senior Center.
