CAPTAIN CHS has one of the most effective and extensive volunteer programs in the Capital Region. In 2017, over 400 volunteers provided more than 18,000 hours of assistance to CAPTAIN CHS's many programs. These caring and selfless people volunteer in almost every capacity of our operations. Volunteer positions include, but are not limited to:

Offers a volunteer opportunity for anyone, especially young people to get involved in helping others which are less fortunate by doing food and clothing runs. Encourages youth groups and other similar type organizations to get involved. Disabled parking, wide doors
Provides a variety of volunteer opportunities in the areas of office work, holiday bell ringers for the red bucket stations, and working with the youth music program. Call for details
Tax preparation is available only during tax season, February-April. Appointments are required. Appointments are scheduled during limited available days and times. Please contact Geneva Public Library to schedule an appointment.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation help to anyone and if you’re 50 and older, and can’t afford a tax preparation service, we were made especially for you. We understand that retirement or other life changes may mean your taxes are a little more complicated now. With the help of our team of IRS-certified volunteers we make it easy for you.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has more than 5,000 locations in neighborhood libraries, malls, banks, community centers and senior centers. There’s no fee and no sales pitch for other services and AARP membership is not required.
Chemung County's Mobility Manager works to get the word out about transportation options like public transit. C-Tran has a bus buddies program. Trained volunteers act as travel trainers, people who provide individualized training, to give a person who wants to become a rider, the skills to travel safely and independently on public transportation.
Men and women 55 years of age and older who want to be productive, active, and assist in their local community to help make it a better place to live, work, and play. Volunteers work in faith based, non-profit, educational, or governmental agencies lending their support. Tapping the volunteer’s lifetime of experience and skills, they are matched to assignments that are beneficial to the agencies in which they serve and meet their individual expectations of community service.
The Army’s Soup Kitchen, open three days a week, offers not only a hot meal, but conversation and friendship. Everyone is welcome to the kitchen which is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 p.m. During the summer months, over 60 people participate each week and enjoy food and socializing with others and 45 people attend weekly the rest of the year.
This food pantry serves thousands of people daily in providing food services to those in need. It is located on 14 Church Street, Richfield Springs, NY 13439.
